Welcome to my Kitchen

Hello! I’m Julie and I live in Vancouver where I throw lots of dinner parties, teach cooking classes and dream endlessly about food. Cooking is one of the great joys of my life. Thankfully it is my job as well.

I started this blog in January of 2010 to combine my love of food with a desire to capture and share all of the food-related moments in my life and the many people who make them special.

Way back in 1997, I graduated from the professional culinary program at the Dubrulle Culinary Institute in Vancouver and worked in restaurants around the city. After a few years I realized I wasn’t really cut out for the demanding life of a restaurant cook and left to find a new way to combine my passion for food, wine and people that also left some time for my family and friends. I started doing cooking classes in people’s homes and then added culinary tours to the mix.

Kitchen Culinaire was born in 2008 and has been slowly evolving ever since. My main focus is in inspiring people to get in the kitchen and cook for themselves and the people they love. I care deeply about helping people create a sense of community through food, one recipe at a time. In becoming an extension of the classes and culinary tours, this blog has pushed me to become a better cook and introduced me to amazing people from around the world.

At Kitchen Culinaire we offer cooking classes, wine tastings, culinary tours and private dinner parties. Many of the recipes we teach are first tested and refined here on the site and then find their way onto class menus. My business partner in this small venture is my dear friend Sarolta. A passionate home cook who loves to travel, Sarolta has a background in fitness and nutrition and has run her own successful photography studio with her husband for many years. She is also way more organized than I am which sure comes in handy around here. We share a love of good food and wine and the idea that there is nothing better than gathering people around the table to talk and eat and laugh and learn. Click here for more information on the classes we offer.

Each time I pick up a knife, go to the market, write a blog post or host a class I learn something new. Cooking inspires me every day. Thanks for stopping by…
