Zucchini Ribbon Salad with Niçoise Olives, Mint and Ricotta Salata
Labour Day is upon us which means the kids are heading back to school, it is time to pull out the sweaters, maybe take a walk through an apple orchard and anticipate the season of stews and roasts…
It feels so strange this year with Max already back at school for two weeks, not an apple orchard in sight and the two sweaters I brought are hanging in the closet where they will stay for the unforeseeable future. I have always loved the changing of the seasons and felt an intense pang of homesickness this past Friday. I was missing my family and friends, missing walking my dear old dog, hosting dinner parties, watching the leaves as they start to change red, yellow and orange. Continue reading
Spaghetti with Fresh Tomatoes, Mozzarella and Basil
Tomatoes, tomatoes everywhere! I know it is a cliché but there really is nothing like a beautiful, juicy, ripe tomato in season. With the lousy spring and early summer that Vancouver had this year I am unsure as to where things are at in terms of the current local crop. Before we left I did see some tomato varieties starting to make their way to the Trout Lake Farmer’s Market but the ones I saw were still far from the gorgeous, sun-blushed, sensuous, bursting-with-ripeness beauties that usually make their appearance in late August. The promise of a recipe to come…
After the excitement of our arrival and the subsequent hustle to get the apartment set up and Max ready for school we are now easing our way into bit more of a “normal” routine around here.
For Glen and Max Monday through Friday now feels very much like home with their days structured around school and work hours. For me it has been a bit different. Continue reading
Grilled Peaches with Buffalo Mozzarella, Prosciutto and Arugula
It has been just over a week since we arrived although it feels like forever since we left Vancouver.
We have fully settled into our lovely flat I have been cooking almost every day but many of our meals have been past favourites that have already been photographed and posted on this blog. With everything around me changing I have found myself gravitating towards staple recipes in my cooking repertoire. Dishes that are simple, easy and comforting. Continue reading
A New Kitchen in Miami!
Welcome to Miami!
We arrived safe and sound last Saturday and the last 5 days have been a whirlwind.
After two nights at the hotel where Glen was staying we moved Monday into our new flat on the 28th floor of The Waverly with a really breathtaking view of Biscayne Bay. The apartment is airy and bright and has more than enough space for the three of us. It also happens to have a compact yet well appointed kitchen with absolutely fabulous light for taking photographs. Continue reading
Mushroom and Brie Pizza with Thyme and Truffle Oil
Yesterday was Max’s 10th birthday!
As Glen’s, Max’s and my birthday are very close together (Max is August 10th, I am the 18th and Glen is the 19th) we have, for the past 9 years, had a big birthday/summer party to celebrate. There are generally upwards of 75 people, a ton of food, crafts for the kids, cocktails for the adults and it starts at 2 pm and goes until 2 am. It is always one of the highlights of my summer. Continue reading
Chocolate Gelato
Things are starting to come together around here and while the to-do list is still very, very long, progress is being made.
In less than two weeks Max and I will be in Miami. How crazy and strange.
My mood has been all over the map this last week. Excited and elated, stressed and overwhelmed, homesick even though I am still at home. Continue reading
